A smarter, safer, more efficient OR — verified before incision

The OR setup variability challenge

Every operating room is different. Staff rotations, missing instruments, and inconsistent layouts create friction right before incision. These small differences cost time, increase stress, and drive unnecessary expense.

Surgical HAbItat™ standardizes the last 5 minutes before surgery — the moment that truly determines readiness.

The Back Table

Every instrument is organized by the surgeon’s preference card.
Surgical HAbItat™ validates presence, count, and positioning — before incision.

The Equipment Zone

From laparoscopic towers to robotic systems, every device is positioned for safe, efficient workflow.
Surgical HAbItat™ validates orientation, cable routing, and readiness.

Inside the Surgical HAbItat™

The Patient Table

The table is where preparation meets precision.
Surgical HAbItat™ confirms proper draping, orientation, and access — creating a verified environment of safety.

The Imaging Field

Ultrasound, C-arm, and Doppler units complete the habitat.
Each is positioned and draped for sterility and access — enabling real-time verification during surgery.

Real-time computer vision feedback

📸 Capture: Staff snap a quick photo of the OR setup in the app.

⚙️ Analyze: Surgical HAbItat™ uses computer vision to flag issues — e.g., C-arm not draped, ultrasound misaligned, stools missing.

Correct: The app gives instant feedback so staff can fix and recheck before confirming readiness.

🚫 Result: Setup not yet verified — team prompted to correct and re-scan before calling the surgeon from the next suite.

Optimized Setup — Verified by Surgical HAbItat™

All checks passed:

  • C-arm draped and positioned correctly

  • Ultrasound aligned toward field

  • Stools placed for scrub team access

📲 App Status: Setup Verified — Ready for Surgery

Standardized, validated, and ready to call the vascular surgeon from angiography.

Real-time computer vision validation

Surgical HAbItat™ uses proprietary iOs technology to analyze every OR setup in real time. The platform compares live images to gold-standard references, identifying missing instruments, misaligned equipment, or safety issues before incision.

Staff receive instant visual feedback — “Setup Verified” or “Correction Needed” — allowing the team to standardize setups across shifts and surgeons.

Preference-Driven Back Table Validation

Surgical HAbItat™ extends beyond room setup — it validates the back table itself, using each surgeon’s unique preference card.

Our AI analyzes instrument type, count, and layout, comparing live setup photos to gold-standard reference images. The system flags missing or incorrect items before incision, ensuring a verified, ready-for-surgery environment.

🧠 Personalized Back Table Validation

Preference-Driven Accuracy
Surgical HAbItat™ extends beyond room setup — it validates the back table using each surgeon’s preference card.

🔍 How It Works:

  • Staff snap a quick photo before incision.

  • Computer vision identifies instruments and layout.

  • The system cross-checks with the digital preference card (e.g., Dr. Perez — AV Fistula Setup).

  • App flags 🔴 Missing/Incorrect Items or confirms ✅ Complete.

📊 Example: Lower Extremity AV Fistula
Confirms presence and positioning of key items — vascular clamps, tunneler, graft, Doppler probe, and 6-0 Prolene.

⚠️ Setup Incomplete Corrections Needed

Findings:

  • Wrong stapler detected → Dr. Perez uses medium, not large.

  • Missing gloves → Size 8 Biogel not present on back table.

  • Suction tubing missing → Not present on the sterile field.

📲 App Feedback:

  • “Remove large stapler from field and open medium stapler.”

  • “Add size 8 Biogel gloves before proceeding.”

  • “Place suction tubing on field before incision.”

Next Step:
Team corrects issues, re-scans, and Surgical HAbItat™ updates to
Setup Verified — Ready for Surgery.

Designed for measurable impact

Surgical HAbItat™ is built to drive measurable improvements in surgeon satisfaction, efficiency, and cost control.
By validating OR readiness before incision, hospitals can anticipate fewer setup-related delays, better workflow consistency, and higher confidence across the surgical team.

Turnover time — Designed to reduce setup and turnover by up to 10 minutes per case

🧭 Surgeon satisfaction — Supports consistent room setups and fewer last-minute adjustments

♻️ Supply waste — Promotes standardization to minimize unnecessary instrument opening

🛡️ Safety — Enhances readiness verification through real-time visual feedback

💰 Cost — Aims to decrease rework and delay-related inefficiencies

The vision: an OR that’s predictable, efficient, and trusted — verified before incision.

Jesse P. Caron MD

As my mentor in surgical innovation, Dr. Eubanks, taught me: You don’t just show up to the dinner table expecting to eat. You need to set the table first. Surgical HAbItat™ applies that principle using the AI and computer vision toolbox to help surgical teams “set the table” — ensuring every patient, surgeon, and staff member begins each case in a ready, optimized environment.
